Obverse: "20 CENTS" within laurel wreath, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" at rim., Reverse: Liberty seated left holding pole with liberty cap in left hand and right hand on globe with "LIBERTY" across it. Behind Liberty is wheat sheaf, two cotton bales, and a tobacco plant.

Obverse: Bust of James Smithson facing left, to the left inscription of double dates, inscription with quote and legend surrounding., Reverse: The Smithsonian's sunburst logo and the word "Smithsonian".
