Kennedy to the left and the date below, Reverse: Modified presidential seal of the United States of America, a shield with vertical stripes on the chest of an American bald eagle. The eagle holds an olive branch in its right talon and a bundle of thirteen arrows in its left talon and a scroll with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. A circle of 50 stars surrounds the eagle.

Obverse: Three people holding hands at a civil rights march with a man holding a sign reading “We Shall Overcome”., Reverse: Three flames intertwined to symbolize the freedom of education, freedom to vote, and freedom to control one’s own destiny. The design was inspired by a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King: “They get the fire hose. They fail to realize that water can only put out physical fire. But water can never drown the fire of freedom.”
